The liturgy celebrates the lordship of Christ in the hearts and history.
In celebrating Christ the King of the universe, the Church cannot forget that “the Immaculate Virgin, preserved from all guilt of original sin, on the completion of her earthly sojourn, was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen of the universe, that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son, the Lord of Lords (cf. Apoc 19:16) and the conqueror of sin and death” (Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, Lumen Gentium 59).
This is why the Church has also established the memory of the “Queenship of Mary” on August 22.
