Mary in the Apocryphal Writings

The term "apocryphal" (from the Greek apockryphos = hidden) designates a text generally attributed to a person close to the entourage or the time of Christ, that wasn't retained in the Canon of biblical Christian Scripture.

The Canon (from the Greek kanon = reed, ruler) is the list of Christian Scripture recognized as inspired. A book is canonical when it is part of the Bible, as opposed to an apocryphal book.
