Bolivia

Much of the population of Bolivia suffers from dire poverty. For many, the mother of Jesus is a source of comfort and hope.

The Shrine of Copacabana shows how Marian beauty, this most tender side of Christianity, has accompanied the passage from the Inca religion to faith in Christ. It also shows that Marian devotion stimulates the zeal to serve the poor.

The Shrine of Oruro also deserves attention for its annual procession, where Indians, mestizos and whites participate, united at least on that one occasion, in a unique act of worship.

The Shrine of Mamita de Cotoca de Santa Cruz is a witness to the Virgin's care and compassion towards the former slaves and the oppressed of today.
