The Events of Naju

The Events of Naju (South Korea)

A family of converts (1)

Julio Kim and Julia Youn were married in 1972 and have four children (who kept their family name in the Korean tradition).

Julio began teaching religious education in the early 1980s. Julia, who was seriously ill, followed him reluctantly. Then she came to accept her illness as a grace. A little later, she recovered and then she bought a Bible, a statue and some images of the Virgin Mary.

After a visit to the poor

"On June 29, 1985," she recalled, "I took the bus, with some women from my parish, to the village of Kkot Tongnay. In that village, there was a priest who into his house homeless beggars, the sick, handicapped and abandoned, the most marginal: more than 900 people, Christian and non-Christians alike. Everything was free."

Very moved, Julia helped to serve the sick.

That evening, she prayed for the conversion of sinners and the community of the sick, and saw her statue shed tears.

Lachrymations of a statue of Mary and Eucharistic miracles

During the following days, the tears continued, until July 4th.

In 1986, a chapel was built to house the statue.

On February 18, 1993, the Virgin asked that a prayer be said each Thursday for the conversion of North Korea.

From June 5, 1988, to September 22, 1995, some signs were given in the Eucharist: an approach, an effusion, a mark or a transformation into flesh inside Julia's mouth.

Messages raising suspicion against the bishops and division

On October 23, 1994, Julia received a new message:

"How many tears I have shed for 700 days, and how much scented oil for 400 days, for the salvation of my children [...].Today, in the Church itself, Apostasy and infidelity are growing at an alarming rate. The action of secret societies contributes to this situation. [...] The Holy Father groans in pain for the Church, in a suffering of agony, through a new Gethsemane. His heart is overcome by a deathly sadness. He goes to Calvary carrying his cross. At his age more serious trials are added, for he is surrounded by traitors like Judas. Many who pretended to love him are moving away from him from a moral standpoint, but I support him always with my maternal love. You too must become his defenders with a faithful heart."

The Pope associated with the signs

On October 31, 1995, her group was invited to the Pope's daily mass, celebrated at seven in the morning in his private chapel. Julia received communion, and her host "changed into bleeding flesh" in her mouth. She kept it there without swallowing it.

After mass, as usual, the few dozen faithful admitted in the private chapel lined up in the adjacent room where the Pope was greeting each of them briefly. One of the pilgrims had brought a video camera. When the pope came near Julia, that person left his place and filmed the meeting. As the Pope was about to speak to her, she simply opened her mouth without speaking.

The video camera was recording.

It was a shocking surprise to the officials, since the tradition of the Holy See is to avoid mixing the Pope with particular signs, especially miraculous ones.

Discernment and negative judgments

The prohibitions of 1998, 2003 and 2005 were not obeyed; on the contrary, on her internet website Julia Youn claimed that the Pope approved. Consequently she incurred an automatic excommunication (meaning that the seer placed herself outside the Church).

Archbishop Andreas Choi Chang-mou of Kwangju emitted a decree on January 21, 2008 ordering the automatic excommunication of the seer Julia Youn and of those who would celebrate mass in her private chapel or in the small Marian shrine that was built in Naju.
