The Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows

The Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows

The Apparition of March 6, 1982 (Kibeho, Rwanda)

The principal message given to Marie Claire Mukangango concerned the recitation of the Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows.

This chaplet, which is not a substitute for the Rosary, has been known since the 14th and 15th century. It was made popular by the Rhenan mystics, the Dominicans, the Servites of Mary and others.

And yet, it fell out of use. So forgotten that no one in the middle school could recite it properly. There was just an old sister who vaguely remembered some of it. This apparition  then was the one that taught Marie Claire how to recite the chaplet. It was not a new revelation, but a reminder of an element of the Church tradition. [1]

The Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows

The Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows of the Virgin Mary possesses 59 beads, or sometimes 52 beads and 7 medals representing the 7 sorrows of Mary to be meditated upon.

The 7 sorrows are, in order:

1. The Prophecy of Simeon (Lk 2: 25-35)

2. The flight into Egypt (Mt 2: 13-15)

3. The loss of the Child Jesus (Lk 2: 41-52)

4. Mary meets Jesus carrying His Cross (Lk 23: 27)

5. The Crucifixion (Jn 19: 25-27)

6. Mary receives the body of Jesus from the Cross (Jn 19: 38-40)

7. The body of Jesus is placed in the tomb (Jn 19: 41-42)

This is how to recite the Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows:

For each medal, reflect on the mystery and the sorrow inflicted on Mary, and say one Our Father and 7 Hail Mary's. End each set with the following invocation:

V. Pray for us, O most sorrowful Virgin.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Finish the chaplet on the 3 isolated beads with 3 Hail Mary's and 1 Our Father on the main medal.
