Sucre: Our Lady of Guadalupe

Sucre: Our Lady of Guadalupe

Today Sucre is a thriving university town and the site of a famous cathedral. Since 1601, Our Lady has been venerated with enthusiasm.

The building is worthy of note for its three naves and imposing tower. There is an abundance of ex-votos covering the walls. It is remarkable for its wealth of treasures in silver. The miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, about seven feet in height, and encrusted with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and pearls, is still kept in the cathedral and valued at two million dollars.
