Eastport, New York: Our Lady of the Island

Eastport, New York: Our Lady of the Island

The Shrine of Our Lady of the Island was established by the Missionaries of the Company of Mary in order to be a center of authentic Marian Spirituality and Devotion, and to renew Catholic life in the Diocese of Rockville Center through liturgy, preaching and pilgrimages.

An 18 ft statue of the Madonna and Child was placed on the “rock” in 1975. In 1976, the Blessed Sacrament Chapel was built and on October 2nd of the same year the shrine was dedicated to Our Lady of the Island. A statue of the Pieta was set on the knoll to greet visitors in 1985.
