Echmiadzin Cathedral is near Yerevan, the capital of Armenia (Armenian Orthodox). According to tradition, this cathedral (the name "Echmiadzin" means "Descent of the Only Son") was built in 480 AD on the spot indicated by Saint Gregory the Illuminator.

The monastery of Khor Virap, near the Turkish border, was built around the year 500 and then enlarged in c. 800.  It is an important place for the cultural and spiritual identity of Armenia. View the slideshow to get a glimpse of its beauty...
