Beit Sahour and the Field of the Shepherds

Beit Sahour, in the agglomeration of Bethlehem, is situated in the Palestinian zone. It is made up of Christians for the majority. This is where the "field of the shepherds" is located, where tradition places St. Luke's passage (Lk 2: 1-19), where the angels announced the birth of Jesus and invited the shepherds to come to Bethlehem. It is a place of simplicity and joy. There "heaven's door was open," a portent of peace.

Pilgrims stop to pray in the caves that border the field. A chapel was built, with frescoes evoking the gospel passage.
