Montfort’s marian spirituality

Montfort’s marian spirituality

Although Saint Louis de Montfort (1673-1716) is primarily known for his devotion to the Blessed Virgin, his spirituality is Christocentric; i.e. based on the mystery of the Incarnation of Jesus Christ. Montfort spirituality is going "to Jesus by Mary", since, as Montfort liked to say, "Mary is the shortest way to go to her Son".

Montfort is also the person that has given a particular Marian spirituality to the apostles of the final times, revealing in his writings the eminent role that God reserved for the Immaculate Virgin in order to prepare for the triumph of the return in glory of her Son, at the time of the New Advent.

The saint is at the origin of the Company of Mary (or Montfort Fathers), founded in the 1720s. Montfort Fathers are "Missionaries of Mary".

The "Daughters of Wisdom" is another institute that sprang out of Montfort's spirituality.

Since the pontificate of the pope of "Totus tuus" (the motto "totally yours" borrowed by

John Paul II from Montfort's Marian consecrating prayer), Montfort's spirituality experienced a new expansion.
