Romania

Romania is a country of southeastern Europe, belonging to the Christian Balkans.

The Christians of that country are either Catholic, Orthodox or Protestant.

The major Marian shrine is that of Blaj, but we should also mention the spiritual influence of Bixad and Csiksomlyo. The Voronet Monastery, located in the town of Gura Humorului, possesses magnificent frescoes painted both on the exterior and interior walls. The paintings feature an intense shade of blue known as Voronet blue. This blue is so vibrant that art historians refer to Voronet blue the same way they do Titian red. For Christians the color blue is closely associated to the Virgin Mary.
