Montagny: Our Lady of Tours

Shrine of Our Lady of Tours

This place of pilgrimage in the diocese of Lausanne is very popular in the Broye and Fribourg region. It is a testimony of the Catholic faith in an area that was marked by the Protestant Reform in the 17th century.

The center of pilgrimage is currently the home of Vietnamese Cistercian monks. Cistercian monks follow the rule of Saint Benedict, reformed by Saint Bernard. Every evening at complies, the monks sing the beautiful hymn "Salve Regina" (also know by its English name Hail Holy Queen):

"Hail holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us. And after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. Amen."
